We have a Foundation!

Finally a window of good weather to pour the foundation. The slab was poured February 15 for the West Regional Library. The job started at 4 a.m. and ended at 8:00 a.m.Photos by Doug LaFleur/LaFleur's Fine Photography.

Forming up a slab is boring from an onlooker's perspective. It looks like nothing is going on when there is a lot of activity but you can't see much from the road.  That is where we are now with periods of wet and cold and the wait time as things dry out for work to continue. We hear the slab pour is coming later this month!

Dirt work being done while the weather is dry. September 2017. Looks like every child's fantasy to me-big equipment to drive and dirt to play in.

Well playing in the mud and dirt is fun, but we would prefer dry dirt as site clearing begins for West Regional Library. 365 days and counting! Be sure to come back to the Blog for more updates as we photo document our library construction in Scott.

The construction contract for West Regional Library has been awarded to Trahan Construction, LLC from Lake Arthur, LA. The estimated construction cost for our newest library is just under 5.4 million dollars. 

The Construction Contract for the new West Regional Library in Scott will be signed soon. Construction Bids were opened May 11, 2017 and it looks like we are within budget and can start moving dirt soon. Check back for more information as we follow the progress of our newest building.

West Regional Library update - February 2016

The new library will be on six acres of property located at the intersection of Old Spanish Trail and the planned Apollo Road extension in the City of Scott. The property acquisition was finalized in January 2016.

The Building Program (a document that details what spaces and equipment will be in the new library) was approved by the Library Board on February 15, 2016 and is being turned over to the Architects, Architects Southwest, who will soon begin Schematic Design.  The Building Program is available here.

The new library is expected to be about 17,000 square feet, have a variety of meeting and study spaces, storytime room, collections for adults, teens and children, offer more public access computers, fax machine, copy machine, and wi-fi.   The library will be open 7 days a week, including evening hours.

The design and construction timeline is being developed by the Architect.  Following construction and building acceptance, the Library will spend several months moving in new furniture, shelving, computers, and collection. Currently, we anticipate opening in 2018-2019.  This will be refined during the design process, and again after construction gets underway.

The West Regional Library will serve the Western part of Lafayette Parish, including the City of Scott.  Once the regional library is open, the smaller Scott Branch Library (located nearby) will close.
